Platinum polyoxoniobates

Reaction of K₇H[Nb₆O₁₉]·13H₂O with [Pt(OH)₄(H₂O)₂] upon heating gives first platinum polyniobates. A dimeric complex [Nb₆O₁₉{Pt(OH)₂}]₂^12– (1) is produced if the reagents are taken in 1:1 molar ratio. It was isolated and structurally characterized as Cs₂K₁₀[Nb₆O₁₉{Pt(OH)₂}]₂·13H₂O (Cs₂K₁₀-1). Increasing the Pt/Nb₆ ratio to 1:2 yields a mixture of 1 and sandwich-type [(Nb₆O₁₉)₂Pt]^12– (2) which was isolated and structurally characterized as Na₂K₁₀[(Nb₆O₁₉)₂Pt]·18H₂O (Na₂K₁₀-2).
